BETTE DAVIS SINGS “I’ve Written A Letter To Daddy” from “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?” 25
Aug13
The scariest and funniest movie musical number ever, Bette Davis shrieks through this one all the way to another Oscar nod in Robert Aldrich’s classic “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?” co-starring Joan Crawford (of course!) and Victor Buono (Oscar-nominated, too) on the accompaniment.
That is hilarious to see alone.
Bette deserved the an Oscar just for doing that…such a classic scene!
This movie has shades of “Sunset Boulevard”, another film about fleeting fame.
Erie, this kinda scarred me when I was little but I loved it! Still do. That’s acting!
@cutie13124 That’s a GREAT cmment! Thank you!
Lol im a teen and i love Bette Davis ,Me and my friends had a sleepover last night and we were watching this movie ,we went through being scared, laughing and being sad. and whoever is arguing about Joan and Bette are stupid, they are both one of the best actresses hollywood ever had, both icons. But i prefer Bette because she was such a unique and original and even though it should be all about the art,i like Bette Davis more as a person as well.
Phahaha @ Joan Crawford’s face at 1:18.
“Joan had class, Bette was a total CUNT!”
LOL: Ask Mercedes McCambridge about Joan’s “classiness” and lack of “star crap”.
holy shiz! this is real? Im watching House of Wax on tv and they show this in the theater when the chick is hiding…its just creepy D:
it funny because the acters actually apparently hated eachother! so in the scenes where janes going mental she actually enjoyed it LOL!! but it was joan crawford who was the mean one.
i thought the guy playing the piano looked scared. was he supposed to?
The guy playing the piano looked embarassed didn’t he. LOL
In real life it was Joan Crawford who was the nasty one. I watched the film Mommie Dearest and by all accounts she wasn’t a nice person.
her singing in this clip was bad, but not that bad. it just got really creepy toward the end. awesome movie, though.
I was fortunate enough to have met Bette Davis 30 years ago and I can assure you she was anything but a ‘total C…..T’ as you so eloquently put it.
The sad thing of this tale is…Joan sought out this project…specifically asked for Bette Davis as the co-lead…& Bette did everything to try & make Joan the lesser actress & build herself up.
Skip to… “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte”…Joan was fed up with Bette & her STAR CRAP! She pretended to be sick just to get out of the role.
Joan had class, Bette was a total CUNT!
lol…the end.:)
you suck.;
Agreed.
One of the best performances ever, speaking of Bette Davis.
Also, Victor Buono was such a unique character actor. He was great in this role.
Weird, isn’t it? We have total compassion for both of them, perhaps because they represent that aspect of the human comedy: to be pathetic and still hope for better.
the funny thing in baby jane is that we understand both sisters and want them to get the best.
Thank you very much for watching this great classic clip!! And for commenting!
Thank you for posting this classic and wonderful movie.
Great job.
Thank you … as always … for dropping by and for taking the time to comment. Always appreciated and I’m glad you like this clip!
Bette Davis was amazing in this film, and simply terrific in these scenes: she looks creepy, pathetic, funny, scary…An unforgettable movie, indeed. Thank you for sharing, as always!
Excellent comment as always and thank you once again … as always. Best from California, Oncle!
Ohh, sooo GREAT this cut from that world famous film.
Typical Bette and Aldridge at all.
Hahaha
Ja, The Davis is unbeatable !!!
I like very much Victor Buono too.
He was one of Aldridge´s favorite actors.
Look also “Hush Hush Sweet Charlot”. There we find them all again….
